It was on the 10th day of November 2019 when all of us visited Jing Si Abode for the first time. Jing Si Abode is 15 minutes away from our school TCUST. As we are traveling to Jing Si Abode we have lots of thoughts about it like what kind of work we are going to do there? What does the abode looks like? What will we expect there? but all those questions vanished in instant as we see the epic center of World of Tzu Chi.
As we enter abode, we were welcomed by the Aunties and Uncles who were there to volunteer also. They are wearing a smile on their faces as they are working which is very delightful to see. We were also welcomed by a Buddhist nun and led us to our assigned work. The nun taught us how to do our job well, she politely explained to us the importance of every vegetable that we are going to work on and that is we should not waste a single vegetable for they work hard every piece of it. We were asked to separate a vegetable from its stem to its leaves. It was a lot of vegetables and we need to do it one by one we thought for sure that it will be a lot of work to do but the people around us are so kind that we did not notice about the time and we are half way finish when it was tea party time.
We ate a lot because the food was so good, big thanks to all the nuns and volunteers who were behind the delicious food. One thing we observed as we work, we never see a single person there doing nothing, they never waste their time. Everyone is doing something, as if they are paid. We can really see how devoted and comitted they are.
There’s no doubt that Jing Si Abode is called as the hometown of heart and soul, the people living there and the volunteers represent it very well. They are one of the most kind, warm hearted and has pure soul kind of people we’ve ever met. We’ve met some Aunties as we roam around the place after our work and they sang “Huanying” for us, then we took pictures with them and they even hugged us, their hugs felt so warm. We felt very welcomed and they said that they are happy to have us.
After some time, we finally met our fellow Ormocanon volunteer mama and papa volunteer they came to Abode to do work after their certification ceremony. We cried then because when we saw them it felt like home, that’s when we realized that we miss our home so much and then they hugged us very tight and told us that we should take good care of ourselves because we don’t have any parents here and we should study hard. One thing that made me cried the most was when I was hugged by one Mama because my mother told her to do so. It was indeed a surreal moment.
Visiting and volunteering at Jing Si Abode was such a wonderful experience. We met a lot of people with so much differences but one thing they have in common is that they have one goal and that is they are willing to help needy people. They all have the warmest and purest hearts. We are so grateful that we are lucky enough to meet them. Sure thing, we will never forget this moment.
